NICHOLAS VICHINSKY

Writer and Creator

To start, I believe stories unite us. Within our world, there are distant differences. Opinions, that are loud and abundant, make us seem further away. Yet, I am often astonished by the power that

stories have.

To quote Bryan Stevenson, “We are bodies of broken bones. I guess I’d always known but never fully considered that being broken is what makes us human... But our brokenness is also the source of our common humanity, the basis for our shared search for comfort, meaning, and healing” (Stevenson, 2014). Stories allow us to see our problems, to face them, to recognize them, and to improve upon them. At its core, writing, stories, and journalism

allow us to connect our shared vulnerability, commonalities, differences, and brokenness for

improvement.

I believe I address common humanity in stories that journalism looks for. I believe that my work in English, and in the humanities, allows me to find a balance in writing that people can connect to. I come from a place where learning is the primary focus. Understanding differences in perspectives and looking at the world's problems, critically, in hope that we all can come together to save our commonality - humanity.
